About Me
Hi, I’m Jim Dobbin — a retired Microsoft engineer, technology consultant, and an amateur photographer based in the Pacific Northwest. I spent nearly 21 years at Microsoft, where I had the privilege of working with remarkable teams, building large‑scale systems, and contributing to technologies that reached millions of people. My career there shaped how I think about problem‑solving, collaboration, and using technology to make life better for others.
After retiring, I shifted my focus toward something that matters deeply to me: helping nonprofits thrive through practical, modern technology. Today, I support mission‑driven organizations with everything from website development and cloud transitions to operational workflows and technical strategy. I believe technology should empower people — not overwhelm them — and I love helping nonprofits simplify and strengthen the way they work.
Outside of tech, I spend as much time as I can exploring the world with a camera in hand. Photography is how I slow down, pay attention, and capture the beauty and character of the places I visit. Whether it’s a quiet street in the Desert Southwest, a coastal sunset, or the forests and mountains of the Pacific Northwest, photography inspires me to see the world with curiosity and gratitude.
This site reflects the two sides of my life today:
Work — supporting organizations that make a difference
Play — sharing the stories and images from my travels
Thanks for stopping by — I’m glad you’re here.
